Branding Shoot with DJ Cruel Mistress

I recently photographed House DJ Cruel Mistress at the iconic, East Nashville production house Studio 615. In today’s visual where we often “see” music through social media before we ever hear the first track, a DJ’s visual brand is important. Cruel Mistress’s music is groovy and multifaceted, so I strove to visually articulate that in her branding shoot.

My objective was to capture more than a standard headshot. When I work with artists, my editorial background allows me to look past the standard "DJ in a booth" cliché. For this session, our goal was to create a cohesive visual library that she could use across all platforms—from Instagram posts to high-impact show posters.

A high-quality branding gallery is an investment in an artist’s career. It’s the difference between a promoter scrolling past your EPK and one who stops because they can see the caliber of your performance.

This session wasn't just about capturing a moment; it was about building a professional toolkit that reflects the depth of Cruel Mistress’s sound.
